There are many metaphors used to describe the ministry of spiritual direction, but the one that speaks to me most deeply is that of a fellow pilgrim.
When I began training with the London Centre for Spiritual Direction, we explored a range of definitions of what spiritual direction is. The one that has stayed with me the most is the following from Sue Pickering:
“Spiritual direction could be defined as taking place when one person (the director) prayerfully supports and encourages another person (the directee) to attend and respond to God. As a fellow pilgrim, the spiritual director accompanies the directee on this journey of faith.”
In spiritual direction, that is what I hope to offer you: prayerful support and encouragement as you listen for God in your life. It would be a privilege to walk alongside you on your journey of faith.
